The SQUAD supports basic school needs for a group of five students

Room, board, books, transportation, & tuition are basic needs for every student.

In many foreign countries, books, transportation, and tuition are not part of the school budget and therefore the students pay for them.  For example, students are responsible to pay for textbooks or copies of reading given out by the teacher.  They supply their own books, transportation, supplies, binders, pencils, pens, technology, and other items for learning.

The SQUAD FUND takes care of these needs so they can attend school and they send monthly updates too.

Tests & copies

Every student is obligated to pay for handouts, readings, articles, testing papers, and answer sheets. For example, students are required to pay for their weekly quizzes, answer sheets, pencils, erasers, folders, binders, backpacks, & other tools needed for success.

Food

The SQUAD funds feed students two meals a day.  They cook themselves in their boarding house.  They choose what meals they will buy and mostly eat rice, fish, beans, a variety of vegetables, water, and other healthy approved choices.  They shop and bring us the receipt showing exactly what they bought.

Transportation

School bussing is nonexistent.  It is the parent's responsibility to get their children to school.  The use of "tri-cycles," a motorcycle sidecar is the most available means of transportation.  Yes, Jeepneys are available too but are mostly used to travel longer distances, like one mile or more.

School tuition

Most countries outside of the Western word charge fees to attend school.  Yes, there are public schools for every grade but students get a better education in private schools.  Private schools in Mindaow ranges from $15-$30 for the tuition fee.

Shelter

Our plans are to build a dormitory that will house all of our students.  However, at this time we rely on local boarding houses to house the students.

These boarding houses ofter have 6-8 people per bedroom, separated by a small partition wall.  There are ofter from 18-24 girls per house, two bathrooms, and a kitchen for cooking.  Yes, it is very cramped but that is the "norm" in the Philippines.

Health Care

Next Step Ph. provides all medical and dental care for the student to have success in school.  They receive two dental exams and one health physical every year and any care needed throughout the year.

Textbooks

Students are required to buy for their textbooks or copies of reading given out by the teacher.  Textbooks are very old and ofter are not readable because the faded pages are unreadable.

School Uniforms

School uniforms are required in all schools public and private.  The school requires a clean serviceable uniform for each student.  On average students need three sets of uniforms for the year or every three months.  For a school shirt, pant/skirt/ shorts it costs about $11US.

Technology

Technology is a valued commodity in education.  Students need to use technology in order to be proficient when they enter the workforce.  We have grants from various software companies that allow students to use their platforms.  However, we still need to provide end-user devices.  We have a two to one ratio, which is two students for every device.  We hope to have enough sponsors and doors to make it a one to one program.
